In the early 1980s, she started her professional career, and was recognized for her role as Siobhan in the soap opera daytime Ryan's Hope between 1982 and 1986. Catherine Willows was her best role on the CBS drama police procedural. Crime Scene Investigation from 2000-13, and Immortality (2005). She reprised the role in the sequel Vegas (2022-present). Helgenberger is also well-known for playing the role of K.C. She won the Emmy Award in 1990 for Outstanding Supporting actress in Drama Series, in recognition of her performance as Koloski on China Beach, an ABC Drama China Beach from 1988 to 1991. Other credits include the TV series Under the Dome (1996), Species II (1998), Erin Brockovich (2000) and Mr. Brooks (2007). McCain is the oldest of four siblings. McCain finished her education at Phoenix Country Day School. She was also a student at Xavier College Preparatory a Catholic private school exclusively for girls. In 2007 she earned her bachelor's degree in art history at Columbia University. In 2017, she joined The View's daytime talk-show The View where she co-hosted until 2021 and received 4 Daytime Emmy award nominations for her work. In her other ventures McCain began writing columns for The Daily Mail newspaper after her three years on The View. McCain has also written four books which include America You Sexy Bitch, The Love Letter To Freedom and Bad Republican.
